Filmmaking
My life's passion is to utilize my 20 years of experience creating photography and films to support important causes, with a focus on environmental conservation, organic agriculture, and indigenous rights. My love for the natural world and diverse cultures has taken me on some incredible journeys to the most beautiful places on earth, and has introduced me to some of the most amazing people. Currently I am directing and producing a documentary feature film called Sacred Ecology about the importance of cultural and biodiversity preservation.
I am currently directing and producing a feature-length documentary film, called Sacred Ecology, that explains the critical role of indigenous cultures to biodiversity preservation. The film is committed to elevating ecological and spiritual ancestral traditions that preserve and nourish the seeds of holistic environmental stewardship within communities, while also spotlighting successful models of sustainability. Over the past 5+ years, I have interviewed indigenous elders, cultural leaders, permaculture educators, seed savers, and ecology experts from around the world, weaving together their timeless wisdom through creative storytelling.
This short documentary film features Larry Santoyo, Holistic & Environmental Designer, explaining what permaculture is and why its important, in support of his educational program at The Permaculture Academy. Permaculture is a design science focused on creating sustainable ecosystems with a core set of ethics and design principles that are similar to those in indigenous cultures — such as, the importance of observing an ecosystem for a good period of time in order understand how the system works as a whole, before making any changes with permaculture design methods. Filmed and edited (with mostly stock footage) by Christine Peterson.
This short documentary film features Rowen White, Seed Keeper and Storyteller from the Mohawk Nation of Akwesasne, introducing her educational program at Sierra Seed Cooperative. Her seed stewardship mentorship program is a holistic, indigenous, permaculture-based approach to organic seed saving, with practical hands-on skills, cultural context, and guiding principles that are rooted in the indigenous ecology of interconnected relations. Filmed and edited by Christine Peterson.
This short documentary film features Seed School, a groundbreaking, educational course that trains people from all walks of life to build local seed systems rooted in the ancient tradition of seed saving. Practiced by farmers and gardeners for thousands of years, seed saving strengthens food security at the community level, empowering people to reclaim control over their food supply. Filmed and edited by Christine Peterson for Native Seed Search and Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance.
